Leonardo da Vinci
Leonardo da Vinci once said:
“The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art.”
and that it is.
I haven’t posted in a while, because I haven’t run much recently. School started again. I started a new position. But most of all, I bruised the bottom of my foot running the anniversary race at SUNY. I wore bikila’s and ran a pretty fast race, and didn’t feel injured until days after. This kept me off my feet for some time. I usually run trails, this was a road race and I ran it in minimal shoes. I hesitate to post this because I may get the “I told you so’s” (that minimal running is bad for you, bound to injure you etc). But let me put this into perspective. Runners get injured all the time. 1 1/2 years ago, I had: hip pain, arch pain, hip flexor pain, groin pain, knee pain, two lost toenails… the list could continue. However, since I donned my minimal shoes, I have had none of these issues (and I clock @3 hr long runs on weekends). This one will get chalked up to running a quick race and letting my “barefoot” form get away from me in the pursuit of a good time. My shoes didn’t do this, I did because I didn’t listen to my feet.
The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering, and it can show you if you let it.
I don’t think we have ever linked to this video, but it is beautiful to watch, I wonder what da Vinci would think.
