Deadpool 3 Will be 2024’s Only Disney MCU Movie Following Release Date Shuffle

The strikes may be over but the impact on Disney’s upcoming release dates has been confirmed.

Disney has today confirmed a shake-up of upcoming film release dates, and it means the impending Deadpool 3 is set to be the only Disney MCU film to arrive during 2024. Both Captain America: Brave New World (previously dated for July 26, 2024) and Thunderbolts (previously dated for December 20, 2024) have been pushed into 2025.

Deadpool 3’s release date has shifted from May 3 to July 26, but it remains scheduled to arrive next year. In contrast, Captain America: Brave New World is now scheduled to arrive on February 14, 2025, and Thunderbolts will land on July 25, 2025.

In addition, Blade (which was initially planned for February 14, 2025) has been moved to November 7, 2025. Two untitled films which were previously planned to debut on the new dates for Thunderbolts and Blade have been removed from the schedule. There are now four MCU films planned for 2025; Fantastic Four remains slated to arrive on May 2, 2025.

In October, Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy conceded that the movie’s planned May 2024 was indeed at risk due to the actor strike. With the strike over, star Ryan Reynolds has revealed a first look at Dogpool as production gets set to resume.

In related news, Disney’s Lion King spin-off Mufasa has also been shifted from mid-2024 to December 20, 2024.

Earlier today it was confirmed Sony’s Venom 3 also got a new release date, shifting from June 2024 to November 8, 2024 as production on the sequel resumes following the end of the SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike.

Combined with Madame Web (February 14, 2024) and Kraven the Hunter (August 30, 2024), it means Sony is still set to have three comic book movies hit cinemas next year, compared to just one apiece for Disney and DC (Joker: Folie à Deux on October 4, 2024).
