Golden Globe winner Awkwafina is among the new cast members, who’ll be stepping in as the voice of Zhen. She joins fellow newcomers Viola Davis, who plays a villainous character named Chameleon, a wicked and powerful shape-shifting lizard, and Ke Huy Quan, who joins the Kung Fu Panda ensemble as Han, the leader of the Den of Thieves.

Jack Black reprises his role as the voice of Po, the franchise’s main protagonist, in addition to Dustin Hoffman as Kung Fu master Shifu; James Hong as Po’s adoptive father, Mr. Ping; Bryan Cranston as Po’s birth father, Li; and Ian McShane as the dark and dangerous Tai Lung, Shifu’s former student and arch-nemesis.

This film marks the first feature-length entry in the franchise since 2016’s Kung Fu Panda 3, which wrapped up DreamWorks’ original film trilogy. The franchise has also spawned several animated television specials and series, including The Dragon Knight on Netflix, which released its third and final season in September.

DreamWorks Animation officially confirmed Kung Fu Panda 4 was in production in August 2022, marking the return of the film series following a long absence from the big screen. The long-awaited fourth installment, directed by Mike Mitchell and co-directed by Stephanie Ma Stine, will open in theaters on March 8, 2024.
