‘Fantastic Four’ could introduce Johnny Storm’s surprising replacement

Put down those pitchforks, Human Torch lovers, nobody’s saying Johnny Storm won’t flame on in the MCU’s Fantastic Four. However, Matt Shakman’s film is reportedly introducing a character who is traditionally Johnny’s replacement on the team — robot sidekick H.E.R.B.I.E. Marvel’s currently on the hunt for a male actor to voice the CGI character, and while there’s no word on who is in the running for the part, if Kevin Feige is smart then he’ll have Bill Hader right at the top of his list. If you can’t imagine Hader voicing a slightly irritating cybernetic sidekick then may I direct you to his performance as Alpha in 2017’s Power Rangers. Go, go Fantastic Four!

Casting for Marvel’s Fantastic Four has been a tumultuous road, with hardly any official updates and a lot of names being thrown around by insiders. While many actors have had their names linked with the role of Johnny Storm over the past year, it seems like the rumors have settled on a Stranger Things standout playing the role in the MCU.

On Twitter, artist @21xfour imagined what Stranger Things season 4 Eddie Munson actor Joseph Quinn could look like as the Human Torch in the MCU’s Fantastic Four.

The actor looks great with Johnny’s traditional blonde hair, with the fan art also showing that Quinn could pull off the hero’s powers after he shouts, “Flame on!” The actor is the latest to be rumored for the fiery hero in the upcoming MCU movie.
Marvel has yet to confirm any of the four main characters for Fantastic Four, with the closest being the recent emergence of multiple reports claiming that Pedro Pascal has been cast as Reed Richards. As for Johnny Storm, there have been several names thrown around for the character. Despite Zac Efron and Stranger Things’ Dacre Montgomery being popular fancasts for the role, the duo never appeared amid the Fantastic Four casting rumors.

Instead, one of the actors that was said to be in talks for the role was The Boys’ Jack Quaid. However, shortly after his name was raised in connection to the MCU movie, Quaid denied his involvement in Fantastic Four. The rumor mill would then point towards what would have been a major casting, as an Oscar-nominated actor was said to have been approached for the role. Paul Mescal was the actor in question, but according to more recent rumors, the actor passed on the role.

While Mescal is unlikely to play Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four, the newest rumored frontrunner for the role is not unknown to him. According to the latest rumors, Stranger Things’ Joseph Quinn is now said to be a lock to play the Human Torch in the MCU movie. The actor will star alongside Mescal in Gladiator 2, and — funny enough — rumored Reed Richards actor Pascal is also part of that movie’s cast. With Fantastic Four aiming to begin filming in Spring 2024, the reveal of the movie’s casting should be coming in the next couple of months.
