Where would we be without TV shows and modern-day streaming platforms?
2023 may have been a triumphant year for theatrical releases such as Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, however, it was also another great year for TV shows both old and new.
Although there were plenty of new shows released across network television and streaming, new data reveals that the top 10 most watched shows across all streamers were mostly older titles.
So, without further ado, here are the top 10 most-binged shows of 2023 across all streaming platforms – such as Netflix, Prime Video, etc.
Coming in at number 10 was Supernatural, a show about two brothers named Sam and Dean Winchester who are two of the greatest monster hunters to ever walk the earth, realms, and universes.
Jared Padalecki stars as Sam Winchester alongside Jensen Ackles who plays his brother Dean, although the show’s main title ended back in late 2020 – its fanbase continues to grow and rewatch with hopes that the show will one day be rebooted/revived, as teased by its stars.
Next up on the list was Heartland, a Canadian series based on the original book series of the same name by Lauren Brooke – starring Amber Marshall as Amy Fleming.
Its latest instalment, season 17, premiered just last year during the month of Halloween with new episodes also being planned to be released in the following year of 2024.
Arguably one of the most iconic and successful sitcoms of all time, Friends, a show that not only topped the charts before the age of streaming – but still manages to at least get into a list such as this one.
Starring Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, and the late Matthew Perry – Friends continues to reign supreme in the world of television.
7/10 Gilmore Girls
Another show starring Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki, the iconic Gilmore Girls ranked in at number 7 on the overall streaming charts – needless to say it also was a smashing hit during its run on network television.
Starring Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham as mother and daughter Rory and Lorelai Gilmore, this show also featured many names that later went on to become household stars.
6/10 The Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang Theory ranked in at number 6, a show that is endlessly rerun on network television and streamed time and time again by its ever-growing fandom across various streaming platforms.
It has even gone on to receive spinoff projects, bazinga.
This list would be lying if it didn’t include at least one YouTube channel turned streaming sensation targeted toward a younger audience through memorable children’s songs, rhymes, and graphics – Cocomelon.
4/10 Grey’s Anatomy
Another show that continues to retain enough popularity throughout the years to land in top 10 lists like this, Grey’s Anatomy – one of television’s most heard of titles.
Starring Ellen Pompeo as the titular Meredith Grey and created by Shonda Rhimes.
Grey’s Anatomy still continues to air new episodes year in and year out, as of the making of this list.
NCIS, a show about a fictional group of characters from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, this title’s always brought in the viewers and it continues to do so in the age of streaming.
Bluey, an animated cartoon aimed at children but easily enjoyed by parents too, has taken the world by storm with how fast it rose in popularity in family households since first being released in 2018.
Not only does Bluey have a movie in the pipeline, but it also has a game!
Suits, an American legal drama show that kicked things off with Mike Ross who ends up working with one of New York’s best lawyers despite dropping out of college.
