Dave Bautista and Samuel L. Jackson are officially set to headline a film adaptation of the Red 5 Comics title Afterburn.
According to Deadline, Dave Bautista’s next major action project is Afterburn.
The film is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a massive solar flare has destroyed Earth’s technology.
Bautista is set to play Jake, a former soldier who finds valuable artefacts for wealthy clients.
Teaming up with a freedom fighter named Drea, Jake embarks on a mission to retrieve the Mona Lisa before it falls into the hands of an evil warlord.
Samuel L. Jackson will also star in a supporting role as Valentine, another member of the resistance.
J.J. Perry will be at the helm of the project. He has also directed Bautista in the upcoming action-comedy The Killer’s Game.
Neal H. Moritz, Toby Jaffe and Steve Richards are on board as producers for the project.
Toby Jaffe said in a statement: “Afterburn is a terrific action story, combining the fun of Indiana Jones with the near future world-building of Children of Men,” Jaffe said.
“J.J. is going to bring this to life in a thrilling way, using real practical stunt work to create authentic, visceral set pieces.
He continued: “Dave is one of the leading action stars in the world today, as well as being an actor with real soul and versatility. So excited to be making Afterburn with them both.”
Red 5’s Afterburn comic, written by Red 5 founders Scott Chitwood and Paul Ens and illustrated by Wayne Nichols, made its debut at Red 5 Comics in January 2008. The series initially consisted of four issues, concluding in July 2008.
Dave Bautista’s untitled ‘Afterburn’ movie does not have a release date yet.
