Fantastic Four director seemingly confirms Pedro Pascal will play Reed Richards

News shared by SAG-AFTRA that Pedro Pascal would be beginning production on Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four took the internet by storm this week before the information was promptly removed from the public.

Now MCU fans are back to wondering if the rumours that Pascal would be suiting up to lead the next iteration of the iconic superhero team are true, once again.

However, the director of the next Fantastic Four movie Matt Shakman may have just slyly confirmed that Pascal will indeed be starring in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the official Reed Richards aka Mister Fantastic.

Shakman shared a Pubity post on his Instagram story today that reads “SAG-AFTRA confirms Pedro Pascal will play Reed Richards in Fantastic Four,” and he doesn’t seem to be debunking the news.

It’s typical to see cast and crew members excitedly share casting announcements on their social media, and although it has yet to be officially confirmed, this could be exactly what Shakman is doing.

Shakman only shared the post itself – no added text either confirming or debunking the news.

SAG-AFTRA added Pascal’s involvement with Fantastic Four on a recent listing page for a “Career Retrospective” they had the Mandalorian star lined up for.

They wrote on their website: “Pascal recently wrapped production on Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated Gladiator 2 and will soon begin production on Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four.”

However, the info regarding Fantastic Four was removed once news began to circulate, assumingly due to the fact that Marvel Studios doesn’t yet want to announce the news.

This could be due to several reasons – perhaps Pascal isn’t fully on board yet due to the various number of large projects he’s already committed to, or it could be that Marvel Studios are waiting to announce the news in a louder fashion.

As for the additional Fantastic Four characters, nobody else has come close to being confirmed to be starring in the movie – although some stars have been heavily rumoured to be on board.

Such as Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn, who has reportedly been tapped to play Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch – previously played by Chris Evans.

Mission Impossible alum Vanessa Kirby has also reportedly signed up to star as Susan Storm aka the Invisible Woman – previously played by Jessica Alba.

As mentioned, Pascal has yet to be officially confirmed to be starring in the movie.

Fantastic Four is currently scheduled to release on May 2nd, 2025.
