Craig Mazin Confirms ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6’ Script Is Complete

Fans have long been waiting for the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Now, writer Craig Mazin has provided an interesting update regarding the script for the next film of the franchise.

In a recent interview with the L.A. Times, Mazin revealed that he was surprised at Disney’s decision to greenlight the script for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 despite its unconventional nature.

Mazin said “We pitched it, thinking they wouldn’t buy it because it’s too strange. But they did!”

Mazin co-wrote the upcoming movie with Ted Elliott, the original writer of the Pirates franchise.

At the moment, the upcoming Pirates movie faces the challenges posed by the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes before it can embark on its journey into unknown waters.

“Then he wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone’s waiting around,” Mazin added.

According to Variety’s summer 2020 report, Disney was working on two “Pirates” projects: one featuring a reboot starring Margot Robbie and the other being the sixth installment in the original franchise written by Mazin and Elliot.

Margot Robbie has mentioned that the “female-led” project is currently not moving forward at Disney. However, Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of the series, hinted that the film is not completely abandoned; instead, it might come out after the Mazin and Elliott movie.

The official cast of Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is unknown at this point. The next film will seemingly be a reboot with a “younger cast”. It is expected that the seafaring adventure will feature mostly new and fresh talent.

However, there is a possibility that a few original cast members could take on mentor roles for the new generation of pirates.

While Johnny Depp seemingly won’t be returning for Pirates 6, Orlando Bloom, who played Will Turner, told Parade about how he would find it “interesting to see how [his character] surfaces and what he’s like,” revealing his desire to return.

Brenton Thwaites, the actor who played Will’s son, Henry Turner, also told The Cosmic Circus that he thinks “there’s a way to fit him” into the sixth Pirates movie.

Disney’s biggest challenge lies in discovering a young, new actor to take over the role of Captain Jack Sparrow, previously played by Johnny Depp.

Considering the development of a separate spin-off led by Margot Robbie, it’s likely that the main Pirates franchise will continue to feature a male lead.

Initially, Johnny Depp was slated to appear in Pirates 6, aiming to give his cherished character, Captain Jack Sparrow, a proper farewell. However, the actor was dropped from the project by Disney due to allegations of domestic abuse made by his former spouse, Amber Heard.

After successfully winning a libel case against Heard in the United States, fans have clung to hope for the beloved actor’s return to the iconic role. As of now, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has remained tight-lipped regarding whether Depp will make a comeback in Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

The question of Depp’s reprisal as Captain Jack Sparrow remains uncertain. Throughout his legal battle, he maintained that even a substantial financial offer wouldn’t tempt him back.
