Daredevil: Born Again Can Finally Pay Off An MCU Hero Tease 9 Years Later

Daredevil: Born Again could finally pay off a Marvel Cinematic Universe hero tease from nine years ago. After a few cameo or supporting roles since he returned as Matt Murdock in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, Charlie Cox will be back to lead his own series as the Man Without Fear. Daredevil: Born Again’s cast is currently shooting the upcoming MCU series in New York City, with many characters from the original Netflix Daredevil returning for the new TV show.

Beyond the returns of Netflix stars like Elden Henson’s Foggy Nelson and Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page in Daredevil: Born Again, the Disney+ series — and the MCU as a whole — seem to be embracing Marvel’s Netflix legacy. Kingpin’s story in Echo was in line with his origin in Netflix’s Daredevil, and The Defenders Saga shows have been included in the official MCU timeline on Disney+. With Marvel embracing its Netflix shows, a nine-year-old tease could finally be paid off in Daredevil: Born Again’s story, and evidence suggests that might happen.

White Tigers (Hector Ayala and Angela Del Toro)

Angela del Toro is one of the characters in Marvel Comics to carry the mantle of White Tiger, a hero revealed to debut in Daredevil: Born Again through set photos, though rumored to be the Hector Ayala version of the character in the series. In 2015, Jessica Jones season 1, episode 4 name-dropped Angela, with Krysten Ritter’s Jessica telling Mike Colter’s Luke Cage about the character, saying, “Angela del Toro. Reasonable rates.” With Jessica Jones setting up Angela del Toro as an active private investigator in the MCU, the character can make her debut in Daredevil: Born Again.

Jon Bernthal will return as the Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again. For some time now, Frank Castle’s story has been rumored to be that the anti-hero will go after crooked cops who have misused the Punisher’s skull emblem. Now, thanks to the first Punisher-related Daredevil: Born Again set video from @PunisherFanatic, it seems like how that begins has started to become clearer.

In the set video, a character who looks like an impersonator of the Punisher sneaks up on White Tiger and shoots him point-blank in the head. While it could have been Bernthal’s Punisher doing the killing through the use of a double instead of the actor, the method employed for the shooting does not fit Castle’s usual style, which is a lot more direct.

As Daredevil: Born Again’s White Tiger is likely Hector Ayala, his death would have a major connection to the comic book storyline that saw Angela del Toro inherit the White Tiger mantle. Like what has been rumored to be the plot of Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel Comics saw Matt Murdock defend Hector from murder charges before the character was wrongfully convicted, ran from the courthouse, and was shot dead. Angela then became White Tiger in her uncle’s place. Given the set video, it seems like Daredevil: Born Again could be paying off the MCU’s nine-year-old hero tease and introducing Angela.
