Owen Wilson & Ke Huy Quan’s MCU Heroes Officially Join Marvel Continuity

Owen Wilson’s Mobius and Ke Huy Quan’s Ouroboros of the MCU series Loki appear to have joined Marvel Comics. While they may not be the exact versions of their MCU counterparts, there’s a clear and direct inspiration for their comic appearance from the Disney+ series. The two beloved TVA agents appear as O.B. wants to help Earth-65’s Gwen Stacy with a multiversal problem leading to her new series.

Proving that her web really does connect them all, Madame Web previews 2024’s lineup of Spider-stories in Web of Spider-Man (2024) #1. The MCU-ified Mobius and Ouroboros first appear in the story “Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider” by Stephanie Phillips, Eric Gapstur, and Matt Milla, previewing the upcoming series with the same title.

Mobius and Ouroboros in Marvel Comics

Though it’s unclear if these are technically supposed to be the characters as they appear in Loki, they bear a striking resemblance both visually and in their dialogue. The Marvel comic definitely seems to have been written with the voices of Owen Wilson and Ke Huy Quan in mind.

Entering the Comic-Verse: Characters Before & After Appearing in the MCU

They’ve technically appeared in Marvel Comics before, but the Mobius and Ouroboros in Web of Spider-Man (2024) #1 are undoubtedly based on their MCU counterparts. Both comic characters are notably in She-Hulk (2005) #3 by Dan Slott and a slew of artists, when Jennifer Walters stands trial at the TVA. Mr. Ouroboros was originally a clone of Mobius, evidenced by the series’ early concept art showing Owen Wilson as Ouroboros. Ke Huy Quan’s Ouroboros is a completely fresh take on the character, while Owen Wilson’s Mobius is more similar to the comics. However, in Spider-Gwen’s story, both characters are strikingly identical to their Loki equivalents.

Mobius and Ouroboros aren’t the first characters to debut in the comics after premiering in the MCU. Stellan Skarsgård’s Erik Selvig appears in tie-in comics for Marvel films and joined the 616 in Avengers: Standoff! by Nick Spencer, Mark Bagley, and Jesus Saiz. Clark Gregg’s Phil Coulson made his first mainstream Marvel Comics appearance in 2012 and has shown up consistently since. The Loki characters wouldn’t even be the first to cross over from a Disney+ series, as May Calamawy’s version of Scarlet Scarab also debuted in Moon Knight (2021) #25 by Jed MacKay, Alessandro Vitti, Alessandro Cappuccio, and Partha Pratim.

The TVA Helps Gwen Stacy of Earth-65 Join the 616 in Her New Series

Web of Spider-Man (2024) #1’s preview of Spider-Gwen’s series sees Mobius and Ouroboros from the TVA discussing Gwen Stacy. The story “Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider” by Stephanie Phillips, Eric Gapstur, and Matt Milla showcases Gwen Stacy in her civilian life dealing with a mysterious multiverse issue. Simultaneously, Mobius tells O.B. that it’s not worth investigating while O.B. tries to explain that Ghost-Spider isn’t an ordinary version of Gwen Stacy. The end of the story sees Spider-Gwen rescued when O.B. appears through a TVA timedoor to possibly bring Earth-65’s Gwen Stacy to the 616.

It remains to be seen if Mobius, Ouroboros, and the TVA will have large roles in the upcoming Spider-Gwen comic or if they are just the catalyst that gets her into the 616. However, if they can do this for Gwen Stacy, it seems that the beloved Loki supporting characters could help other heroes travel between timelines in future comic appearances. Though Mobius already existed on the page, the Owen Wilson and Ke Huy Quan versions of their TVA agent characters are welcome additions to Marvel Comics canon.

Web of Spider-Man (2024) #1 is out now from Marvel Comics.

Loki Season 2 Poster

Having escaped from a different timeline, Loki stars in his own titular series, where he learns about the life of his predecessor and discovers the truth of time and space. In the show, Loki reluctantly becomes a part of the Time Variance Authority (TVA), an interdimensional governing body that keeps time in order. On the chopping block, Loki is given a chance to save himself by helping the TVA hunt down someone more dangerous than himself – another Loki.
