Holland’s Video Message to CinemaCon

Tom Holland addressed CinemaCon attendees through a video message. He apologised for his absence, citing a commitment to another project.

“I am so sorry I can’t be with you. I am halfway around the world shooting a movie,” Holland said. “I know we left you with a massive clip hanger at the end of ‘No Way Home,’ so ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is a fresh start. It is exactly that. That’s all I can say.”

Holland acknowledged his reputation for leaking Marvel Cinematic Universe secrets. He assured fans he would avoid spoilers.

“That’s all I’ve been allowed to say,” Holland added. “And I’m well over the hump of giving away spoilers, so don’t be worried. I’m not going to do that today.”

Previous Success of Spider-Man Films

Sony Pictures has experienced significant commercial success with Holland’s Spider-Man films.

  • “Spider-Man: Homecoming” (2017): Generated $880 million globally.
  • “Spider-Man: Far From Home” (2019): Grossed $1.13 billion worldwide.
  • “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (2021): Became the first post-pandemic blockbuster, earning $1.9 billion globally.

Plot and Character Speculations

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” concluded with Peter Parker erasing his identity from the world to fix the multiverse. Cretton and his team are working on expanding the character’s journey.

Cretton noted that his daily focus involves refining the suit, enhancing swinging techniques, and crafting unique events and emotional storytelling. He praised his creative team’s dedication to the project.

“I’m spending my time exploring the next stage of this amazing character with a team of the most incredible artists in the world,” Cretton said. “We’re all, just daily, nerding out over the suit, how to swing, how to create an event, an emotional story, and a ride that we haven’t really seen before.”

Returning and Potential New Cast Members

Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are expected to reprise their roles as MJ and Ned. Sadie Sink joined the cast, though her role remains undisclosed.

Speculations suggest Sink could portray X-Men mutant Jean Grey, a character previously played by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner. The filmmakers have not confirmed her casting or character details.

Connection to Upcoming Marvel Releases

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” will release between two upcoming Avengers films, “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars.” Holland’s film will continue Peter Parker’s journey after the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

Holland’s New Production Deal

Holland recently signed a new producing deal with Sony. His production company, Billy17, will develop several new films for the studio. This partnership includes an original title called “Burnt,” written by “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” writer-director Rodney Rothman.

Cretton’s Personal Story and Inspiration

Cretton shared a personal anecdote about his one-year-old son’s first word being “Spider-Man.” The child pointed at a comic cover of “Spider-Man: Most Wanted.”

Cretton humorously revealed he lost money at roulette during CinemaCon but remained focused on promoting the film.

“Everyday right now, I’m exploring the next stage of this amazing character with a team of incredible artists of the world. How to swing, how to create an emotional story and a ride we haven’t seen before,” Cretton said.

Audience Excitement and Anticipation

CinemaCon attendees expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming film. Holland’s Spider-Man series has consistently performed well at the box office.

Holland expressed gratitude to the audience for their support. “I would never pass up the opportunity,” Holland said, “to say a massive ‘thank you’ for all of your support for all of our ‘Spider-Man’ movies.”

Sony Pictures closed the CinemaCon presentation with Holland’s pre-recorded message. The event marked Cretton’s first appearance at the convention.
