I have wanted to run the Great Adirondack Trail Run since I first heard about it. I wanted to run the longer, 11.5 mile run. The cliche you don’t always get what you want is a cliche for good reason…
Registration opened at 8am. Last year I thought I could wait for a few hours and still get in. Nope. So I settled for running the shorter, 3.5 mile race—did quite well actually. Katie and i both had a blast. But I wanted the longer run. This year I got up early. Had the number for The Mountaineer all ready. Called at 8:04. Then again at 8:06. I finally got through…at 8:25. All filled up. Really. All filled up. So now I am wait listed, but with 25 people on the list I am not holding out hope.
Also, unbeknownst to me, my friend Crystal and her husband called and got in. I should have tried to pool together and register at the same time.
I now have a vague idea of how it feels to not be picked in the Western States 100 lottery…ok, it is nowhere near that. But not making the registration two years in a row is a bit of a bummer. I guess I will have to plan my strategy next year. Maybe camp outside the Mountaineer store so that I can just walk in. Oh well, better luck next year I guess.
